Dear Parents,

Rancho Cucamonga High School’s second semester is off and running! The transition has been smooth and students are geared up to finish the year strong! It is hard to believe but graduation is only four and a half months away! I look forward to having our graduation in our new stadium Tuesday May 23rd, 2017 at 6:30pm.

The second semester focus will be on high stakes testing as well as continued excellence in the classroom. We want our students prepared for any academic measurement they will take.  In order for our students to be successful, it is important that all students are in school daily. Students who are not in attendance miss out on valuable instruction. It is imperative that our staff have the opportunity to work with your students. Please do not hesitate to give us a call. It is our pleasure to be of assistance to you

To support our students we continue to offer after school tutoring, PTSS Saturday School, and Freshman Pride Academy. We want our students to be successful and extending our day will allow them that added support. Students and parents should also take advantage of School Loop to contact teachers if you have concerns about his or her progress.

Rancho has earned respect by setting high standards and on-going support to obtain maximum student achievement for every student. Our expectations for all students are that they will be empowered with knowledge and are College and Career ready.

It is my honor to work with the tremendous students and staff that make Rancho great! Rancho is proud of its academic success and we are proud of the fact that each year our students are accepted at some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our events and activities! Follow me on Twitter at @RCHS_Cougars for the latest news.  Stop by and say hello when you see me on campus.

Sincerely,

Cary Willborn
Principal RCHS

Freshmen are invited to a presentation for information on applying to a Service Academy on March 21 at 11:00 am.   You must have at least a 3.8 GPA to attend this presentation.  Freshmen who are interested in this information must email Ms. Vasquez to reserve a spot (or come into the office to see Ms. Vasquez at lunch, before or after school). Here is information about the presentation:

For students who would like to experience a military environment while getting a first-class education, the five Service academies — the U.S. Military Academy (Army) in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy (Navy/Marine Corps) in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy (Air Force) in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Coast Guard) in New London, Conn.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. — offer an outstanding education and full four-year scholarships. Tuition, books, board and medical and dental care are all fully paid for all four years.

The competition to get in is fierce. Admissions criteria include:

• High school academic performance
• Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)
• Athletics and extracurricular activities
• Leadership experience and community involvement
• A congressional letter of recommendation (not required by the Coast Guard Academy)

Graduates of all four academies receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned as officers in their respective Service branch. In all cases, there is a service obligation of a minimum of five years.
