Hello Rancho,

Fourth quarter has arrived quickly, bringing many more opportunities for students to show their Cougar Pride!    I invite you to follow me on Twitter @ RCHS_Cougars for up-to-date news.

Students and teachers have been working diligently throughout the year to prepare for the transition to the new curricular standards.   Our staff has been learning quite a bit about how to implement the Common Core Standards (CCSS) in math and English/language arts and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).  The new standards emphasize college and career preparation and measure higher order thinking skills. In the upcoming school year, students will be assessed on these standards through the Smarter Balanced Assessments, replacing California’s STAR testing program.  In the future, students will take these tests on computers; we will provide opportunities for practicing this new way of testing.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams will be administered May 5-16.  The testing schedule for each end-of-course exam can be found online at CollegeBoard.com.  AP courses and the end of course exam provide an excellent opportunity for students to take even more rigorous coursework while they are still in high school.

Student artists and athletes continue to thrive.  Come out to a performance, concert, game, or match to see some of the area’s most talented students in action.   In addition, students are welcome to participate in Path to Success Saturday classes and tutoring before and after school to enhance their learning.

I look forward to seeing you around campus or at the Class of 2014’s Graduation on Wednesday, May 21, at Quakes Stadium where we celebrate our seniors in style.   Please contact me any time to let me know how I can help you succeed.
